هي هڪ گڏيل اصطلاح آهي، جيڪو نيوڪليائي، حياتياتي ۽ ڪيميائي هٿيارن لاءِ استعمال ٿئي ٿو. انهن هٿيارن جي استعمال سان انساني جانين، ٻين ساهدارن، ماحول ۽ جوڙيل عمارتن جي وڏي پيماني تي تباهي ٿئي ٿي. شروع ۾ ان جو مقصد هوائي جهازن ذريعي خطرناڪ ايٽمي هٿيار دشمن مُلڪ مٿان اُڇلائن لاءِ ٻُڌڻ ۾ آيو، پر ٽيڪنالاجيءَ ۾ ترقي اچڻ سبب انهن هٿيارن جو دائرو جيوڙائي ۽ تپش پيدا ڪندڙ هٿيارن سميت وڏي پيماني جي بربادي پيدا ڪندڙ هٿيارن لاءِ به ڪتب آيو. هيءُ اصطلاح ’سرد جنگ‘ جي ڏينهن ۾ عظيم عالمي طاقتن جي وچ ۾ ٽڪراءَ واري دور ۾ عروج تي پهتو ۽ خاص ڪري آمريڪا ۽ سوويت يونين هن ڏس ۾ مقابلي جي ڊگهي ڊوڙ پُڄائي. آخرڪار زندگي ناس ڪندڙ هٿيارن خلاف سڄي دُنيا ۾ وڏو تاءُ پيدا ٿيو، جنهن جي نتيجي ۾ ايٽمي ڌماڪا نه ڪرڻ ۽ وڏي تباهي ڦهلائيندڙهٿيار نه ٺاهڻ جهڙا مُعاهدا ۽ اصول عمل ۾ آيا
